Company History

John A. (Buddy) Howard, CFA, founded Equity Research Services, Inc. in September 1989. Mr. Howard started Equity Research Services, Inc. with the belief that there are many strong, viable, publicly-traded firms that, due to size and/or liquidity limitations, have insufficient or inconsistent sponsorship from brokerage firms. With ongoing contracts with more than 20 publicly traded organizations, he has

  • Composed and contributed to "Investor Relation Reports," annual reports, quarterly reports, press releases, and management presentations
  • Provided advisory services in mergers and acquisitions
  • Assisted clients in establishing brokerage and corporate finance relationships
  • Provided numerous valuations for both closely-held and publicly-traded firms, for purposes of ESOP valuations, estate and gift tax purposes, and fairness opinions.

Before founding Equity Research Services, he worked as an analyst at Carolina Securities Corporation, a leading regional brokerage firm, and Thomson McKinnon, the tenth largest brokerage firm prior to its acquisition by Prudential Bache. He also worked for several years providing investor relations, acquisition, and valuation services for The Liberty Corporation.

Mr. Howard serves as the Director of Research for TM Capital Corp., a leading New York- based investment banking firm. Mr. Howard's research is available in print from TM Capital, and online at its mergers, acquisitions, and research site, emergers.com.

Mr. Howard has achieved his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research. He has Series 7 (General Securities) and Series 24 (General Securities Principals) licenses, and founded Investment Company of the Southeast, Inc. a state-registered investment advisory organization.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Wake Forest University in 1979 and completed his Master of Business Administration at the University of South Carolina in 1981, finishing at the top of his class. He was formerly a member of the Advisory Council to the School of Business and Accountancy for Wake Forest University.
